SİNE
It is the kilim type which needs the biggest
labor among the kilims in the region. All of the motifs consist of geometrical
figures. It has two or three central parts. The main motif consists of
geometrical patterns without a certain style, it generally resembles a
quadrilateral butthe sides are not regular. It is surrounded by little
decorating rectangles, squares and opposite triangles. Between these, stylised
cup and deer motifs take place. At the central part the ground colour is white,
while the corners are dark blue. The side contour is framed with the stylised
triangles and the corners and the central parts consisting of the sine motif.
Various colours are used, the dominant ones being red, white, dark blue and
black. The kilim is used rather for decoration, as an object of exhibition.
Kilims Having preserved many of their pattern
characteristics from Middle Asia, Anatolian tapestry has developed during the
Seljukian period in teh 13 th century and local peculiarities have appeared in
various regions. Hakkari tapestry a version of Anatolian tapestry, are produced
in the region as a traditional craft of the Türkmen communities.
Kilims since their beginning, were not created
just for meeting man's physical needs but also for his psychological wishes.
Religious beliefs and ritual life enrich and develop philosophical thoughts and
the soul of man. This influences both the artist and his work in various ways.
Just looking at the motifs and compositions in the kilims makas this evident.
The figures and patterns used show the mood of
the woman producing the kilims who usually expresses her inner feelings and
ideas, which she is unable to disclose directly, on her products as if writing
them on paper.
The meanings of the
motives in kilims are different depending on the region. However, generally the
motives symbolize religious beliefs, nobility and the power. The language of
the kilims not only indicates the skill of the weaver but also transmits their
messages.
