Classic design predominates in the pure wool carpets produced in the traditional style in and around the Dardanelles region and the shores of Hellespont. Certain vegetal colors and geometric patterns, characteristic of the carpets of the Aegean region are also typical of the carpets of the Çanakkale region, but patterns reflecting the personal feelings of the weaver may be added to the classical designs. The patterns consist of lozenges, squares, rectangles, and triangles, that esthetically cover the carpet. A few other decorative shapes are placed alongside or among these patterns. The bright colors which are used may be seen in the colorful local costumes. The carpets of the region are made of pure wool.
